How to Switch Your Checking Account to Texas Bay

Switching checking accounts might seem like a hassle, but with these simple steps, you can make the transition seamless. Here's your guide to opening a new Texas Bay checking account and closing your old one.

1. Open a Texas Bay Checking Account

Ready for an upgrade? Whether you're choosing Perks Checking, Premium Perks Checking, or Simply Checking Texas Bay has options to fit your needs. CLICK HERE to compare accounts.

Already a member? You can open your new account online or by visiting any of our nine branch locations.

2. Stop Using Your Old Account

Once your new account is set up, it's time to phase out the old one:

  • Destroy any remaining checks, deposit slips, and ATM/debit cards from the old account.
  • Keep the old account open for about 30 days to ensure all outstanding transactions have cleared.


3. Change Direct Deposits

Switch your direct deposits to your new Texas Bay account:

  • Use our Direct Deposit Form for payroll and other recurring deposits.
  • If you receive Social Security benefits, update your direct deposit at GoDirect.gov.
  • For retirement fund deposits, contact the organization directly for instructions on updating your information.


4. Change Automatic Payments

Make sure your bills keep getting paid without interruption:

6. Close Your Old Checking Account

After all transactions have cleared, request to close your old account:
